You Won’t Have To

My beautiful friend Tori wrote this song for all of the graduating MFAers here. And considering the fact that I’m leaving town for good tomorrow (cross your fingers—there’s a lot of cleaning that needs to be done), this is a beautiful and sad note to close on.

My thesis defense is today. I’m the very last one of my MFA class to go. And suddenly I’m SO NERVOUS.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

Maybe I’ll go grade papers this morning, so I’m just infuriated instead of nervous. Sounds like a plan, eh?

I might’ve bought myself a graduation present. And by “might’ve bought” I mean “did buy.”

Have I mentioned the tense looks on the face of two-thirds of my thesis committee members when I see them lately? The one person who doesn’t look tense is my advisor, and he’s read all of my thesis, whereas my committee members are reading large chunks of it for the first time. I’m thinking this doesn’t bode well. Or, you know, I could just not be self-aware and assume everything’s about me when in reality I know it’s the end of the semester and we are all dragging, dragging, dragging.
